The main use for this driver is USB thumb drives, also called USB sticks or
USB keys. USB card readers, floppy disc drives and external USB hard drives
also work.

When you buy a new USB key, it is probably formatted by default as FAT32
(only format for partitions over 2GB). You will likely need to partition it
first, unless using MiNT.

You can use HDDriver for this. HDDriver (https://www.hddriver.net) is a
commercial driver and tools for hard disk drives. For accessing the USB
drive it is not needed. The size of the partitions is limited by TOS
limits: Up to 256MB for TOS < 1.04, Up to 512MB for TOS < 1.04, Up to 2GB
for TOS 4.x (Falcon).

Another method is to partition the USB drive on a PC as FAT16B and use
BigDOS on the Atari to access it. BigDOS
(http://rainerseitel.onlinehome.de/bigdos.html) is a freeware file system
that replaces the GEMDOS of TOS. You can create partitions up to 2GB. Such
partitions are also readable under MiNT, EmuTOS and MagiC 6.2.

For complete information about partitioning using HDDriver or other
utilities, including partitioning from a PC, using BigDOS and learn about
TOS patches that you may need, see the excellent ATARI HARD DISK FILE
SYSTEMS REFERENCE GUIDE by Jean Louis-Gurin:
http://infocoach.fr/atari/documents/_mydoc/Atari_HD_File_Sytem_Reference_Guide.pdf

EXAMPLE 1: MAKE A USB KEY TO EXCHANGE FILES AMONG ATARIS, PCS AND/OR MAC
In HDDRIVER utility, you'll see your USB key in the 'Devices' window.
Rightclick on it and choose 'Partition' from the drop-down menu. In the
partition dialog, specify one 256MB partition and click the 'Compatibility'
button. In the compatibility dialog, check the TOS and Windows boxes, and
the 'compatible with TOS 1.00 and newer' radio button. The USB key will
then be usable under any Atari, Windows and Mac.

EXAMPLE 2: USE THE WHOLE CAPACITY OF A 8GB USB KEY
On a PC, partition the key in four 2GB partitions, following the
instructions on page 32 of the above mentionned ATARI HARD DISK FILE
SYSTEMS REFERENCE GUIDE. Install BigDOS on the Atari computer(s) that will
use the USB key.

Notes:
BigDOS should be the first program in your AUTO folder after the boot
selector. BIGDOS may not run correctly on Falcon, as subsequent AUTO
programs may be skipped; therefore, put BigDOS-F.PRG last.

After copying files to a USB drive, wait a few seconds before removing it,
to avoid data corruption.

CD/DVD writers are supported when used in conjunction with Extendos and CD
Writer Suite (http://www.anodynesoftware.com). You need to run EXTENDOS.PRG
after the NetUSBee drivers, then run SUPERFIX.PRG, included in this
archive, courtesy of Christian Zietz (https://github.com/czietz/superfix).
WARNING: Use a powered hub and connect the device to it. The NetUSBee ports
may not provide sufficient power and overcurrent may occur, damaging the
computer.

Floppy disc drives can be used but there are a few limitations. Not all
drives work correctly. If you use an Atari mouse (not USB) under TOS,
moving it will output characters to the screen. If a card reader is also
attached, the system may hang for several seconds periodically. You need to
wait at least four seconds after swapping a diskette. If you have issues,
you can alleviate them by using the storage driver in the ALT_STOR folder
of the GOODIES folder; read the instructions. WARNING: Use a powered hub
and connect the device to it. The NetUSBee ports may not provide sufficient
power and overcurrent may occur, damaging the computer.

You may need TOS patches.
